Baskin-Robbins Relaunches Ice Cream Pizza Cakes, and They're Damn Near Perfect

Jul 16 2016 - 12:30pm

Baskin-Robbins [1] just relaunched its '90s hit Polar Pizzas [2] ($16) due to popular demand. Customers can choose between a chocolate chip cookie or brownie base, ice cream filling, and candy topping. The scoop shop offers four varieties (OREO® Cookies 'N Cream, Peanut Butter 'n Chocolate and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, Jamoca® Almond Fudge and Heath®, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough), but any custom Polar Pizza can be made.

We tried both the PB 'n Chocolate and Cookie Dough Polar Pizzas and adored them. First off, the crust is undercooked, meaning it tastes like cookie dough. Score! Taste testers thought it almost had the same consistency of the cookie part in a standard ice cream sandwich and claimed the slices vs. the sandwich made for a less messy way to eat. The cookie to ice cream to topping ratio is damn near perfect. Tasters didn't feel skimped in any arena and thought the size and height of the slices made for a sizable (but not overly indulgent) snack. The ice cream held its shape even as it melted slightly (also like ice cream sandwiches). The only complaint I heard is that some wished the cookie had more crunch, but other than that reviewers loved the look, taste, and texture of these pizzas and plan to order one again soon for parties and birthday celebrations.
