Berry Sangria Recipe

Happy Hour: Fizzy Berry Sangria

When it comes to Summer entertaining, my go to beverage is sangria. It's easy to make a large batch and must be put together in advance. It's a wine-based punch, making it lower in alcohol than its spirit counterparts and it has a fruity profile, meaning that most people will enjoy a glass or two.

I believe a hostess can never have too many sangria recipes and this is my current fav. It's a mixture of berries, Rosé, and black currant liqueur. The recipe, which comes from Mariena Mercer of The Cosmopolitan in Vegas, calls for soda water to add effervescence. However, I used sparkling Rosé instead. This sangria is better the longer it steeps, so get started now!

Ingredients

  1. 2 cartons each blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries
  2. 14 Basil leaves
  3. 8 oz. Simple Syrup
  4. 4 oz. Crème de Cassis
  5. 1 box Blush Wine (or 7 bottles of inexpensive Rosé*)
  6. Top Soda Water**

Directions

  1. In a mixing vessel, add all ingredients (except soda), cover and refrigerate for 48 hrs.
  2. For serving, use a red wine glass and pour sangria over crushed ice.
  3. Top with soda.

Makes 1 punch bowl.

*I used La Ferme Julien; a French Rosé sold at Trader Joe's for $4.99.

**I served this at a surprise party I was hosting and didn't have time to make everyone an individual cocktail. Thus, I added a bottle of sparkling Rosé to the bowl, placed an ice bucket near the punch bowl, and let everyone help themselves.
