Did You Watch The Next Food Network Star?

Last night was the premiere of the Food Network's cooking reality show, The Next Food Network Star. I thought it was an interesting, surprising first episode. This season's characters seem more credible than last year's contestants and I'm excited to check out what happens. I love how Bobby Flay has permanently joined the judging panel. How about you, what did you think of the episode? Did you understand Lisa's cooking philosophy? Wasn't it humorous that the comedian was NOT at all funny? Is Giada de Laurentiis threatened by uber perky, perfect for Food Network Kelsey? Did you even watch?

I never missed an episode and was pleasantly surprised to see Mellisa win since I was rooting for her from day one and I usually choose wrong. I have now watched her first 3 shows and am enjoying watching her grow more comfortable in front of the camera. Her recipes are a little fancy for a lazy retiree but maybe I should step it up a bit and go for the gusto. My mind automatically substitutes low fat low cholesterol alternatives to her regular bacon and the butter but I don't think the meal would suffer from the changes which by the way she might think of tossing in herself when she gets more comfy in her show.

I am totally addicted to this show. Love watching it every week. My favorite is Kelsey, although I can see how she could get a bit annoying. I still like her though because she will probably represent the college- first time cooks out there and they really don't have anyone like that now on FN. I like Lisa too but she seems too much of a fashionista. Who dresses like that in the kitchen? Not me. Adam made a great comeback on the Racheal Ray show but I don't think his recipes are consistently good. Aaron has a really likable personality and someone I think I could watch alot of on FN. He's down to earth but he's got to get his tv persona up to speed. His nervousness really shows through and I want to watch a host who is confident. But on another note: I love Paula Deen, she's the best out of the whole bunch and her recipes are really great.

I watched it and I am looking for more information about the "chefs" Some of them don't seem to know what they are doing! I am glad the comedian was booted off she was to stiff and uncomfortable with the lowering brow and closed eyes! You would of thought she had never been in front of people before! I myself would of been terrified to be judged by the networks stars! Wow what a group to have to serve food to!

I watched, but I agree that it's definitely no Top Chef. I think the judges made the right decision.

I usally catch the marathon leading up to the finale. The only winner I have actually liked so far is Guy, and I did not like him when he was a contestant.

I forgot it was on, looking for reruns tonight. Love all the cooking shows/competitions.

I watched and thought it was good. I will watch it again. That girl from Texas is High drama, it will be fun to see how she is with the others.

ilanac13-the gourmet next door sucks. She's totally uncomfortable and weird. I've seen one or two episodes when it first came out...but I haven't seen any since. Guy is the only true success (and he's a local boy so I have a soft spot for him ;) ). But I'm not too fond of his TGI Fridays stuff. It kinda cheapens his image. I liked the show last night. It'll be interesting to see if they can find a chef to match the success of Guy.

I watched, but just because my tv was pretty much on the food network all day. Oddly, this is about the only channel my boyfriend and I can agree on. I wasn't really overly impressed by anyone on there so far. A lot of the contestants annoyed me, like the crying 18 or 19 year old.

I am watching this season. Lisa worked my nerves terribly. I love the commentary by Susie and Bob (from Food Network). I like to watch the back story of these chefs so I will know whether or not to watch their show in once it broadcasts.

silly me - i totally forgot that it was on - but thankfully FN is known to rerun shows - so i'm sure that i'll get a chance to see it again. to be honest, i'm still wondering where the 'gourmet next door' went since i've never seen the show. only guy has been truly successful for the network.

I watched it and loved it! Morimoto's comment about the raw pork not being fit for human consumption was the best line ever! I'll be setting my DVR every Sunday night to watch it.

I watched, but is setting a Tivo really necessary when you know that every episode will be run over and over? It was an interesting first episode. As a Texan, I'm a little embarrassed by Lisa. I don't think she will last long. She and her husband own a restaurant in Dallas, but he's the chef!

I have never watched this show and don't really intend to. I hate how i can rarely find actual cooking shows on the food network anymore. It's turning into MTV with not playing music. Stop playing reality shows and teach me recipes. :)

I started watching it but went to bed because I was sleepy. Really annoyed by the pretentious de-constructing fine dining lady. I will catch it in reruns.

I agree with Caterpiller, the show is pretty good, but the winners don't really go too far. The hosts seem annoying to me for the most part, too. Bobby Flay is the only one that is not annoying. Alton Brown seems so nasty to them all; he's not Gordon Ramsey nasty, but bitchy nasty. Its definitely not as good as Top Chef or Hell's Kitchen. Since not too much is on Sunday nights, I might tune in again, but its definitely not a show that I will rush to watch.

I watched but I am not a huge fan of the show, I mean where are the first seasons winners and the third? the only one i have seen in Guy Fieri and I wish he would go away (hypocrite with his diners drive ins and dives shows but than sells himself to shilling for nasty Fridays? which is it Guy, are we supposed to support local businesses or eat at the nastiest chain around?) Anyway, I am always happy to see Bobby Flay but Alton never looks happy to be on here. Nobody impressed me in the first episode, especially not the woman who was supposed to be a comedian or the high fashion juggernaut who needs some ritalin.
