Do You Buy Nuts Whole to Crack Yourself?

Do You Own a Nutcracker?

The holidays are a time for hot buttered rum, peppermint bark, and platters of whole nuts, just waiting to come across a nutcracker. Do you own one to shell nuts yourself?

I like buying nuts in shells, because they're usually fresher, and it can be hard sometimes to find shelled nuts that haven't been salted or flavored. Also, it slows me down, so I don't eat a pound in 10 minutes :p

My parents have several of them so I managed to swipe one :) I only use it when need be.

I do it by hand (for pistachios) otherwise I buy nuts that don't need any work!

isn't that what teeth are for? ha! or for more reticent shells, i use a rolling pin. for shells that just want to test my patience, i have a hand-held mechanical clamp.

I have several, just because. I use them for crab also.

Yes! I dance and was in the Nutcracker for 10 straight years so it was sort of tradition to have nuts to crack around the house. Even now after stopping I've accumulated a Nutcracker collection. Its more fun to crack them yourself anyway!
