Do You Talk on the Phone While Grocery Shopping?

For some reason, I can't talk on the phone while I'm at the supermarket. If I'm on the phone, I will walk around aimlessly and not get what I need. How about you?

Try to do it, but fail every time. Also can't chat on the phone while I'm cooking!

mamasitamalit, I'm the same. I hate it when I'm trying to help someone at my store and they're on the phone, so I would NEVER do that to someone else. While I'm choosing what bread to buy on the other hand, I sometimes chat on the phone. Grocery shopping is not rocket science. I can do two simple tasks at once. In my opinion, it's kind of a personal problem if you find talking while shopping annoying. If someone is talking quietly on a cell phone, it's really no different than if they were talking to someone with them, so I don't think it's that rude. My whole family lives 3,000 miles away, so I will often talk to them in public places, just to say hi before or after I go to work or school. I also find it relaxing to chat while doing errands. I don't wander aimlessly or stop in front of products needlessly. The people who do that while on the phone are most likely people who would do that regardless. I'm sure the culture where y'all live is different, but in New York, if someone's behavior is not hurting you, or rude to you individually, it's none of your business.

I don't like to talk on my cell phone in public or, really, anywhere. I don't like to talk on the phone. But it doesn't bother me if other people enjoy talking on the phone while they're shopping. It's really pretty harmless. Why do we feel the need to make people feel guilty about their simple pleasures?

I try to keep my phone calls short and pertaining to what I am purchasing, and definitely no talking while checking out.

If I do talk on the phone in the store it's usually important and I try to find a somewhat deserted part of the store to hold my conversation.

I do, and my conversations go like this. "I'm at the store, do you want anything?" "Yes." "Okay, what?" "Um...." "Well?" "Hold on." It doesn't make me popular with the Safeway shoppers.

Ha, this is one of my biggest pet peeves about going to the grocery store! It seems like every other person is wandering around on their stupid cell phone talking to people (and most of the conversations are NOT grocery-related...most of the time I get way TMI!) and they get in your way and block the aisles. I can't shop and talk at the same time because I get distracted. And it REALLY bugs me when people talk on their phones in the checkout...that is beyond rude. The ONLY time I ever talk on my phone when shopping is to call my husband to see what our "inventory" is for certain things. Sometimes he'll call me to remind me that we need TP or paper towels or mouthwash, but the conversation always lasts about 2 seconds.

Just another unnecessary place to use our phones! Only allowed if you're researching, ie. forgot an ingredient. xo

I don't talk while shopping unless i need to call home and see if we need something. Also, i find i never have good reception at any of the grocery stores near me.

No, I like to read the labels and my shopping list . I love Trader Joe's because the people shopping are actually talking to each other. Sometimes I shop at like 6am..... duh that I never thought of taking my ipod. Thanks limelindsey.

I have a few times...sometimes to clarify something on the list, other times if someone calls me that I really want to talk to. I'll chat for a bit, never in the checkout line though. Usually I listen to my ipod whilst shopping. Makes the job go by faster!

I think its rude to do it, therefore I abstain. I can understand a quick "is this the product i am supposed to get" and get off just as quick but to walk around the store talking loudly about how trashed you were the previous night, or to gossip about things I shouldnt be privvy to, please....dont....

I've been guilty of this on occasion, but it feels kind of awkward and I only have so many hands.

I only use the phone if I need to call someone regarding what I need to buy. Otherwise, I think it's kind of rude to walk around the grocery store on your phone. It makes people not pay attention and get in everyone's way sometimes.

I actually came up with this poll idea because my girlfriend called me on my walk to the grocery store. Since I had not talked to her in a long time, I stood outside the store, cart in hand for ten minutes chatting. Then when our conversation was over, I went in to get my groceries.

Not unless I need to call my husband and ask what he wants. Otherwise, it's no go for me!

I never talk on the cell phone in stores, it is completely rude. It drives me crazy listening to people gossip loudly or talk about nothing while walking around getting people's way. When you are talking to someone else you tend to become oblivious to others and rudely get in their way. I feel worse for the poor bored kids who are along shopping, stuck in a cart with a parent supposedly shopping, while talking to someone else, not them. Somehow we survived until the last couple years without constant communication. I really believe cell phone's have no use in stores or while driving on the road. Are we all so important that we have to be in constant contact with everyone we know?

I hate talking on the phone in public in general, and I hate it when other people do it, too. So I don't talk while I'm shopping or checking out - only when I'm going in the store, if I need some information ["what kind of cereal do you want again?"], and when I'm exiting. People who talk while checking out are really rude. Your conversation is NOT that important that you can't at least give your attention to a cashier for 2 or 3 minutes!

I have talked on the phone in the grocery to try and verify what someone wants, but I find the reception sucks, so no. Plus I hate talking on the cell in public.
