Foods So Good, You Can Eat Them Right Out of the Jar

Let's Dish: What Foods Do You Eat Straight Out of the Jar?

Snacks don't always have to be as fancy as soft pretzels and Asian-inspired trail mix; sometimes, the most addictive things come straight out of a jar. As a child, I was taught never to drink milk right out of the carton or eat peanut butter straight from a jar, but there are certain items today that still foster my bad habit: I love nacho-style pickled jalapeños, martini olives, and maraschino cherries so much that these items rarely make it onto a plate.

For you, what packaged foods require no preparation at all?

I eat pickles straight out of the jar, but that's about the extent of it. I eat dry cereal straight out of the box, too, I guess. My husband eats the following straight out of the jars: pickled herring, pickles, pepperoncinis, worchestershire sauce, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, maple syrup, dry instant oatmeal...just about anything, actually. He always grosses me out with what he chows out of the fridge.

I'm on board with the peanut butter! I've stood in my kitchen eating it with a spoon on many an occasion. But smooth, not crunchy. :)

I'm surprised that only one person has said peanut butter! It's so delicious out of the jar.

What bluebell said! Also, peppadews (both hot and sweet) and Mezzetta's California hot mix. And no jar of nut butter is safe from a spoon in my hand!

Pickles, olives, pepperoncinis, and pickled jalepenos. Luckily, my husband doesn't eat any of these things so I don't feel guilty about digging straight out of the jar.

Yeah I can go for the maraschino cherries too, and olives, as long as they're seasoned. Also banana peppers and pearl onions.

Funny, not a single thing! Everything I eat involves preparation in some way. I'm just a huge fan of food combos!

I can't open a can of tuna stuffed olives without just finishing it. The same thing with Cherry Garcia; it never sees a bowl.

OK, I'm a little embarassed to admit this but hey, we all do it, we just don't admit to it. There are really only three foods that I eat right out of the container. The first, which I can't believe someone already wrote down, is PICKLES, the half and half kind. Living in Manhattan, you can still go down to delancey street and get the old fashioned home made pickles, the size of sausages, which are delish!!!!! OK , maybe the people around you for the next few hours won't be pleased with your choice of snacks, but when something is so lip smacking good, do we really care? The next item is ice cream, particularly mint chocolate chip. I start out with a bowl, but after making 4 trips to the kitchen for refills, I simply give up and bring the entire container into my room and finish it off. If it's a pint, that's easy, if a quart, that's harder. If it's a half gallon, I can just about get it all down and pray that it stays down. Of course, the next day I will not be feeling my best but again, who cares, when something is that good, every once in a while it's OK to eat yourself to death. And lastly, although this is not my favorite food, it is for many people. I can't believe nobody wrote that they eat peanut butter right out of the container. I don't know anyone who eats it any other way.So there they are, my weaknesses. Embarassing yes, but we all have them.

Salsa. I eat it with a spoon. I also eat jalapenos and hamburger pickles straight from the jar.
