I am currently working as a hostess until i finish my degree at the end of this year. I've also worked as a waitress before. It definitely taught me great respect for those that work full time in the service and hospitality industry. Long hours and lots of people to please!

I've never worked in any job that involved food. My friends made good money in HS as servers, but I was always afraid I'd dump a tray of food in someone's lap.

I've never worked at a restaurant but one day I'd like to co-own one.

I'm working now in a restaurant/cafe as a waitress. I woke up at 4 this morning. I'm so tired. It's fun - most of the time. When there is a traffic-time it' s horrible. I have one month behind and I haven't said dirty word front of a customer. But that's been very close! I'm joining those who say that everyone should try a job in a service-industry. People would start to see themselves differently as customers when they see the other side also.

I was a waitress for all of one week - and I was probably the WORST waitress EVER! I have never been back in the restaurant industry, but I can tell you - I tip big when I go out!

Server at several establishments, ranging from dives to fine dining; line cook, prep cook, salad line, deli prep, and cashier. Long hours at low pay. Now I have a nice career behind a desk.

I always wanted to work at a Restaurant, but my friend currently works at Red Lobster and he told me that I would probably hate it because so many people waste food. LOL! I never realized that, but damn I hate people who waste food and dont bother to take it to-go! UGGGHH.

I sold concessions at a movie theatre. I don't think running the popcorn machine really counts.

...as a waitress/hostess, and it was the most miserable job I've ever had. Never again!

In high school, I worked at a country club. I started as an assistant server (busser) and then moved up to banquet server.

bartender at a beer bar...also did many shifts as assistant manager...sooo glad I don't work there anymore. Due to company policy, we were not allowed to accept tips when we were serving on the bar...that really stunk big time! I definitely treat servers and all such with respect and courtesy, and I try to overtip when I can. I know what it's like to try to survive on small paychecks.

bartender.. waitress.. cashier.. beauty counter clerk.. go.go dancer.. manager.. ecetera.. i think EVERYONE should have to work in the service industry at some point in their lives.. maybe then there would be less cheap assholes <3!!

"Phone girl" back in the day when someone wouldn't consider complaining that it was offensive to be called a "phone girl." (or "salad girl" as LeLuxe mentions!) Fun job, except the damn customers.

i've worked as a bartender but not in a restaurant - in a bar...so i guess i can't say that i've ever worked in one. i don't know if i would really ahve the paitence for people since i know how picky some can be .

I did and I hated every minute of it. I was once a hostess, a 'salad girl', and a bartender. But I hate waiting on people in general.

Waitress (many moons ago, server wasn't a term then) and made lots of money and never paid for food. I agree with you, Jude. It was a Mexican restaurant and oh so tasty.

...as a server when I was 16 in a small steakhouse along the interstate in a DRY county. (Which means NO ALCOHOL served or purchased) Some people thought it was just the FUNNIEST THING they'd ever heard of, a dry county. Grrrrrr.... But I do have some verrrrry interesting stories from hanging out with coworkers.
