Is Home Canning Worth the Effort?

Home Canning: Is It Worth the Effort?

Although I've always been a fan of quick pickling, it wasn't until recently that I tried canning at home. Although I wasn't sure whether it'd be worth the hours of effort, the end result was so delicious that I can't wait to try it again on other fruits and vegetables. Next time, however, I'd throw a canning and pickling get-together to pass the time. What do you think?

My husband and I spent last Sunday canning our own apple jelly & applesauce. In the past, we've only done jellies & jams, but I'd like to, in the future, can my own tomato sauce (sp sauce, as my mom's jar tops label it) and maybe my own fruit and pie fillings. One of my family's favorite treats used to be my grandma's home-canned peaches.

I haven't done any gardening or, consequently, canning for a few years but I used to and I never found it that troublesome and certainly enjoyed having my own produce available all year round.
