I usually use a recipe at least at first. I have a ton of them. I don't feel experienced enough in the kitchen to go for it on my own.

i use them for ideas, or as jumping points usually.

I really like to use them because I haven't been cooking for such a long time. Since I've gotten more comfortable though, I tend to modify them a little bit and experiment.

I use them for baking, but even then sometimes I mix recipes together or follow my instinct. Last night, I thought the chocolate pound cake wouldn't be chocolate-y enough based on the recipe, and I was right. I should have listened to myself. For cooking I use a recipe more like an outline and change it up depending on my preferences for the night.

i use them sometimes, but not all the time. i think that it depends on what i want to cook and how famiiar i am with ALL the ingredients. i've used recipes when i've first started to use an ingredient, and then once i am able to guage cooking times, and which seasonings go best...i leave the recipe on the wayside.... it doesn't hurt to have an arsenal of them though..

i always use them when trying out something new, but then i remember proportions, ingredients and i will add/subtract stuff to my liking, so i don't need to refer to the recipe again. i have a pretty good recipe memory! however, i will not chance it when baking, just in case

I LOVE recipes for cooking and there are a must have for baking but when I cook I general free-wheel it. If I use a recipe I customize it to suit my tastes and cravings. But I have really gotten into collecting recipes and reading recipes as inspiration for my own dishes.

I hate measuring, and as a result, do very little "sweets" baking. I have measuring cups and spoons, SOMEWHERE, but I'd be hard-pressed to find them! I read recipes and cookbooks for inspiration. The thing I love about cooking is that you never really quit learning. :)

I'm not much of a creative cook. I rely heavily on recipes and have a bookcase full of cookbooks. Reading cookbooks also exposes me to exotic recipes from other countries that I would never know about otherwise.

i love trying new recipes! is a great website that lets you write in what you're craving (or what you have in your cupboard) and then gives you a recipe based on that. i think they're still adding recipes though because i keep getting french onion soup...

i usually mix a few recipes together and 'wing' it. then when i think i've got it perfect i put them into a cookbook that i make yearly. at you can choose from recipes they have or submit your own and they'll even make the book for you!!

I have the recipes for what I make but I typically improvise too especially since I always think of something I want try.

I read recipes to get the gist of things. Some things I never would have thought of so they are very helpful!

i often use recipes and when i start to feel more comfortable with them then i am able to mix it up and add my own flair to it. but i find them indispensable as a starting point

I use recipes as guidelines most of the time, or I will follow it fully to try it the first time, then make my own modifications. For baking, as others have said, I always do...I can't screw up the cookies, or my family will be mad! lol

I use recipes often. I've got a number of printouts from this site, tons of cookbooks/magazines or will check for recipes online.

i read recipes all the time and might use some for guidance when i'm cooking a new dish, but i always end up putting my old twist on it in some crazy way. but for baking? i stick to the recipe always.

I'm learning how to cook more ethnic foods. I feel like it takes me forever to collect my ingredients and make a dish. I'm so slow. My grandma, however, was a wiz without recipes. Her Southern cooking would blow me away and she used terms like 'a scosh of salt'. I've never seen that in recipe book. :)

I love doing research for new recipes, especially on YumSugar... but when it comes down to it, I look at recipes as Inspiration rather than Rules.

I LOVE reading cookbooks and I often use what I see as inspiration. I like to use the ideas to 'wing it.' Even if I do use a recipe for cooking, I rarely follow it exactly. For baking though I agree with the others. I follow the recipe closely!

I love them and use them a lot.

I don't use recipes all the time b/c there are obviously things that I make that I know how to make by heart. But usually, I'll have the recipe in front of me so I can remember what ingredients I need.

I usually use one...I have a cookbook I made up with all the awesome recipes I have found on the internet. But at the same time, when I use a recipe, I usually add my own little thing to it too!

I have about a million of them printed out from this site alone. I cook a LOT, but I rarely ever use them. Sometimes I look them up or a certain kind that I'm in the mood for and use them more as a new idea more than anything. baking recipes are the only ones I actually follow.
