Chip and Joanna Gaines's New Magazine Has the Best Tip For Leftover Herbs

Oct 9 2016 - 4:00pm

Chip and Joanna Gaines are about to release the first issue of their new magazine, The Magnolia Journal [1], a Meredith publication. Beyond the stunning recipes [2] (spoiler: Joanna's pecan pie is included), you can expect lots of practical tips, including this one regarding leftover herbs. Basically, if you find yourself with a bunch of herbs that are less than prime and have even dried out, you can use them in an outdoor fire pit as a fire starter. Here's what you do: "wrap paper and twine around a bundle of herbs," such as "lemon balm, sage, lavender, rosemary, or lemon verbena." Tuck them in a stack of logs and light them as you would do with any other fire starter. As an added bonus, the burning herbs ward off mosquitoes and make the fire even more delightfully fragrant.

For more incredible hacks like this, shopping guides, and recipes, be sure to pick up your own copy of the quarterly magazine, which will officially hit newsstands on Oct. 11 for $8.
