Let's Dish: What's Your Favorite Weird Food Combination?

Let's Dish: What's Your Favorite Weird Food Combination?

At a recent restaurant outing, a friend and I ordered an appetizer that was an unusual (but not unheard of) combination of flavors: gruyère cheese and Fuji apples.

The combination of melted cheese and apples has always been a favorite of mine, and it made me ponder the other unusual pairings that I've loved in my lifetime. As a 5-year-old, I wrapped Kraft singles around my bananas. In college, my roommate got me hooked on canned tuna with cottage cheese. And these days, I enjoy chips in my sandwich.

I'd love to hear your confessions: What are the unusual (or even gross sounding) food combinations that appeal to you?

My dad is definately the king of weird combinations :) The one I always think of first when I think of my daddy is how he eats his eggs. he takes a piece of toast with butter, puts cheese whiz on it, then a piece of egg, and then a piece of banana, and then "dips" the whole thing in the yolk (the eggs are over-easy, of course) :)

Chips in my sandwishes is also a favorite of mine! Along with fries in my hot dogs, tuna in my kraft dinner.. and I think that would be it. There must be more, but maybe I don't find them all that weird.

cottage cheese and fritos. It took my husband a long time to talk me into it but now it's my favorite dip for the chips.

Mine aren't that "out there"... - Potato chips in peanut butter & honey sandwiches - Nilla wafers with cream cheese - Technically, this isn't a food combination but I love eating Cheez-Its and then drinking some Diet Coke. Its probably unhealthy but it tastes good!

My weird combos: -Cottage cheese or cheddar cheese and pickles (sometimes on a cracker). -I used to sit with jars of peanut butter, grape jelly, and marshmallow fluff - scoop all three onto a spoon and eat! -pimento cheese or tuna salad on cold pizza. -I put pepper in my ketchup to dip my fries -I like to mix different kinds of cereals like lucky charms, cheerios, golden grahams, etc. in my cereal bowl and eat with milk. Now, I want to go through my refrigerator and see what kind of other weird combos I can come up with!

when i was younger i used to eat ruffles potatoe chips with yellow mustard and onion on top. also fried bologna sandwiches with mustard, pickles, and potato chips all mushed together between two slices of white bread. and one that sounds gross is a baked brie in filo dough crust with apricot preserves and jarred jalapenos. seriously, most tasty appetizer ever that everyone always loves. served with crackers (triscuits are my favorite) it is always a HUGE hit. maybe i should post the recipe....

My husband thinks this is totally gross...I love to eat a canned pear half with a little blob of mayo on it topped with some grated cheddar cheese. Yummy! But I also love mayo on other things, such as hotdogs and french fries.

Oooh maple syrup and sausage/bacon. It only really happens when eating pancakes or waffles and the syrup just engulfs everything on the plate, but it's soo yummy.

Watermelon and haloumi cheese, figs with blue cheese, bananas with vegemite (YUM!), peanut butter and celery, I think most of those are pretty normal actually. Also love love love prosciutto with melon. Also, since I'm Indian, we eat most fruit with chat masala which is so so so good- especially guava.. There are loads more I think.

hahaha my dinner last week was raspberry yogurt and a chocolate pudding cup mixed in a bowl with a handful of cereal thrown in. (pms moment, lol!) fruit and chocolate isn't really weird but it definitely was a weird play on textures.
