A Look at the 2010 SF Vintners Wine Tasting

Sampling the Wines of SF Vintners

Last Saturday afternoon I grabbed some girlfriends and headed down to Fort Mason for the SF Vintners Market. Although I've attended countless large tastings, this one was different because it was the first tasting where all of the wines were for sale. If you tasted something you loved, you could walk away with a bottle. It's a dangerous concept, but also a fun one! My favorite bottles were two whites from winemaker Yannick Rousseau. The grapes are from Napa Valley, but his winemaking style is classical French, resulting in lush, soft, and sophisticated sippers. The Chardonnay is rich and wonderful, while the Colombard is light and had me craving oysters on the half shell.

The first wines I spotted on arrival were JAQK's great offerings.

The Black Clover Merlot is fruit-forward and easy drinking, but unfortunately, out of my price range.

It was a cold rainy Saturday so I had my fair share of bold reds, including this one called Hope.

Sandpiper Rose has a beautiful color and aroma.

Another Rose worth seeking out is this one by Jean Charles Boisset.

To take a look at some of the other wines I enjoyed, browse my gallery after the break.

I loved this old canister filled with fresh roses.

Tom Scott Vineyard's Barn Burner was one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons of my life.

Winemaker Tom Scott is so passionate about his winery, it's patched onto his jean jacket.

A bird's eye view of the surprisingly good-looking crowd.

Can you spot my favorite table? Hint: it has the roses on display.

This French grape blend was excellent thanks to the addition of Malbec.

Pretty bottle, pretty name, pretty wine!

The memorable Colombard.

My favorite bottles.

This was a fun taste test. We got to sample two bottles of the same wine...

...but one had been aerated and the other had not. The aerated wine tasted fuller and more balanced.

An assortment of bottles.
