Manhattan Recipe

Happy Hour: Manhattan on the Rocks

There's just something about drinking a classic cocktail that puts you in the right state of mind, don't you think? I prefer my Manhattan on the rocks because the clinking of the ice feels old world and romantic to me. But truthfully, the cold, booze-soaked maraschino cherry is my favorite part! This cocktail goes particularly well with salty, rich dishes, making it the perfect addition to a Thanksgiving menu. But be careful: a couple of these babies and you could be dancing on tables this holiday season. Keep reading to stir up one of your own.

Hmm, renee415, I don't have a calorie count on it. But it would probably be an easy thing to estimate!

This looks good! Is there a calorie count on this drink? I'd love to link this recipe onto this list of tasty "skinny" holiday cocktails >

Atomicspin, you make good points! And I'm definitely adding brandied cherries to my list next cherry season. They would make great gifts as well.

I'm okay with subbing the rye out for JD (you can even use Canadian whisky or bourbon), but maraschino cherry juice? That sounds absolutely nasty. No self-respecting Manhattan has that in it. If you prefer more sweetness, just add more of the sweet vermouth to it. And brandied cherries take about 20 minute to make yourself, leave the crappy plastic stuff out.

Haha, Gabriela, they were my grandmother's favorite drink also! Every Thanksgiving and Christmas she would be sippin' on a Manhattan. :)

Manhattans are my grandmother's favorite drink- she says she's been drinking them since she was in her 20s!
