Mother's Day Foods

Let's Dish: What Did You Make or Eat on Mother's Day?

In case you didn't catch sight of the throngs of families out and about yesterday, Mother's Day was a big deal once again this year. I wasn't in the same state as my mother this past Sunday, but I did make up for it the weekend before by treating her to huevos rancheros at one of my favorite Chicago brunch spots, Nana. There, we treated her to a plateful of crispy corn tortillas, chorizo, refried pinto beans, Vidalia onions, peppers, poblano cream, guacamole, and queso fresco, all topped off with over-medium fried eggs.

Tell us: what did you make, or where did you eat, on Mother's Day?

@Susi May Oh I love this place! For mom's day we had mimosas and strawberry shortcake!

@Susannah Chen I did. We used a dryer prosecco, but I would recommend a slightly sweeter sparkling as the cara caras weren't too sweet.

@onlysourcherry That sounds ridiculously good. Did you simply squeeze fresh cara caras and mix the juice with sparkling wine? I'll have to try that!

I made my family and fiance brunch with cara cara mimosas, an arugula salad with quinoa, shaved red onions and grape tomatoes, a baked roasted asparagus omelet with goat cheese, and angel food cake with fresh whipped cream and strawberries for dessert!

We ate at the top of the Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill in San Francisco. It was an awesome buffet: complete with crab claws, made-to-order omelets, and pink champagne. My mom was in heaven!

The big event was dinner this year. The entire family, including my mother-in-law, ate at Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen. Started with hush puppies and ended with beignets.

We celebrated Mother's Day and my dad's birthday the previous evening at their favorite French restaurant. I love me a great brunch, but no one could pass up rack of lamb, cassoulet, and soon-to-be-banned-in-California foie gras!

I couldn't be with my mom, but I did help throw a brunch baby shower for one of my best friends. I made two quiches: one with black forest ham and sharp cheddar, and the other one with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and feta. They were a big hit!

Since I was only with my mom for the first half of the day, my family went out for a very simple breakfast at a lakeside marina near our home in CT.  The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but having the entire family around the same table in such a beautiful place made my mom's day!
