Poll: How Do You Feel About Stemless Wine Glasses?

Stemless Wine Glasses: Love Them or Hate Them?

Riedel at ShopStyle

In recent years, stemless wine glasses have really seemed to gain traction in the marketplace, and the leading stemless wine glass maker, Riedel, even releases limited-edition versions of its wildly popular stemless styles.

But yesterday, San Francisco Chronicle restaurant critic Michael Bauer questioned the functionality of stemless wine glasses, pointing out that wine poured in stemless wine glasses measured three degrees warmer than the same wine poured in a stemmed glass — a significant difference in temperature when it comes to the enjoyment of wine.

I really like the simplicity of these glasses and would certainly use them for wine and other beverages. Even when I do have a glass of wine, I always find myself holding the "cup" of the glass as opposed to the stem. It just feels much more comfortable in my hand that way.

We have a set of these for different types of wine, but we rarely drink wine from them. I use the ones for port, and my husband uses the ones for whiskey.

I prefer my wine glasses with the stem.

i have some stemless glasses and sometimes enjoy drinking red out of them, but at the end of the day, i prefer a good old-fashioned wine glass with a stem.

I love them for red wine, which I don't want to be cold anyways!

I like the look of them but would probably use them for lemonade or cocktails that need ice. I prefer stemmed glasses for wine.

I like these. I use my stemless wine glass when it's just me and I'm having a glass of wine to kick back. But for a dinner or when guests are over I always use the traditional wine glasses.

I love stemless wine glasses, but I like to use them for tinto de verano, sangria, and other cocktails that need ice.

I'm not too serious about wine temperature and all that so, I'd definitely use this. Although I prefer the look one a stemmed glass.

We got a set as a gift and we'll use them on the nights where we're just having a glass of wine with a weekday meal or something. But really we normally just use the glasses with stems.

These would be cute for lemonade, but I like holding the stem so I don't warm up my wine.

Well I'm not super serious about wine and drinking it at the proper temperature (I've even been known to throw an ice cube or two into my blush wine/white wine if I haven't had it in the fridge/freeze long enough, but am getting impatient for a glass of wine RIGHT.THIS.SECOND.! Egads, the horror!) ... but since I am a silly girl part of the fun of drinking wine is the fancy wine glass, so these are just not nearly as fun without the stem. They are pretty for juice glasses, though - I'd use them for that.

hate them, but not as much as stemless champagne flutes. Those are the worst!

I love them, and actually have 2 different sets. However like Kim I do not drink wine, so I use them as everyday glasses.

I love these glasses, but I don't drink wine, so I'd just use them for anything else. I have always wondered though about how it affects the temperature of the wine.

I like them for red wine, but would never drink white out of them.

call me uncouth, but whether I'm drinking red or white wine, I enjoy it at whatever temperature if it's good. I don't prefer these glasses but they're pretty and a novelty and why not use them? Do they deliver wine to my mouth?

Yeah, what Machula said. Also, I hate when my fingerprints get all over my wine glass.

I think this concept is missing the point. the stem on wine and champagne glasses isn't there for fun or aesthetics, but for holding the glass so that you don't transfer heat from your palms to the wine and warm the liquid up unnecessarily. they're nice but for lemonade maybe

These glasses are pretty, but half the fun of drinking wine is the stemmed glass.
