America has White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's hatred of Dippin' Dots [2], and Iceland has President Gudni Thorlacius Jóhannesson's hatred of pineapple on pizza. While visiting a high school last week, President Jóhannesson answered questions from the students after his presentation. When asked about pizza, the president said if it were up to him, pineapple would be outlawed as a pizza topping, sending the internet into a frenzy.

Yeah, yeah @NASA [3] may have discovered a new solar system... but did you hear that #Iceland [4] wants to ban #PineapplePizza [5] ??? #pineapplegate [6]

The president has since issued a statement about the incident in both Icelandic and English. In the post, the Nordic politician clarified he has nothing against the fruit and does not have the ability to outlaw the practice of putting it on pizza.

What topping does Jóhannesson prefer? "For pizzas, I recommend seafood."
