Starbucks Is FINALLY Going to Stop Wasting All Its Leftover Food

Mar 26 2016 - 1:00pm

Starbucks announced [1] its plans to donate 100 percent of its leftover food to feed the hungry. The effort will roll out to all of its 7,000 US locations by this time next year. "We are going to feed millions of people as a result of this campaign," Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told CNN. The coffee chain has partnered with Feeding America [2] to donate all of its unsold meals, including sandwiches and salads, as a result of Starbucks baristas taking initiative. Schultz explained, "Our people just felt so badly" when it came to throwing away unsold but perfectly good food. Many companies opt out of participating in donation programs due to all the tight codes, to which Schultz responded, "There are a lot of regulations, and I would say for the right reasons. The municipalities are just trying to make sure that the food is safe to eat." This news comes days after a class-action lawsuit against Starbucks for underfilling its lattes [3].
