Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe

Berry Tempting: Strawberry Ice Cream

I'm in love with my ice cream maker. Seriously, I've decided I can't throw a dinner party without serving some sort of homemade ice cream. It's just so wildly delicious and insanely creamy. Also, who could refuse a bowl of homemade ice cream? No one I know.

For a recent party, I made this strawberry ice cream. With a smooth texture, rich strawberry flavor, and pretty pink color, it's absolutely perfect. But be careful when adding the berries to not overfill the ice cream maker. Want the recipe? It's actually really easy! Read more.

Ingredients

  1. 8 large egg yolks
  2. 1 cup plus 1/4 cup sugar
  3. 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  4. 2 cups skim milk
  5. 4 cups sliced strawberries
  6. 2 cups heavy cream

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, off heat, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and salt until blended. Gradually whisk in milk.
  2. Cook over medium, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until custard thickens slightly and evenly coats back of spoon (it should hold a line drawn by your finger), 10 to 12 minutes.
  3. Pour custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl set over ice. Stir in cream. Let stand, stirring occasionally, until chilled.
  4. Churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions. Mash 4 cups sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar and let stand 10 minutes. Add to ice cream as it churns in ice cream maker. Transfer ice cream to a resealable plastic container and freeze until firm, about 2 hours (or up to 3 months).

Makes 1 1/2 quarts.

Little Miss - Buy one today! I received one as a wedding gift it worked regularly for 25 years, no lie. Asked the friend who bought it, he paid $35. I recently bought a Cuisinart (2 quart I think) around $60 +- (can't member) but you won't regret it. The combinations are unlimited to your imagination. You can also make frozen drinks very easily.

Mmmm ice cream. I have been toying with the idea of getting an ice cream maker but can't quite justify the purchase to myself. http://imlittlemissjay.wordpress.com/
