Sun-Dried Tomatoes: Love Them or Hate Them?

One of the first dishes that I mastered (and have since made a million times) was pasta with a creamy sun-dried tomato sauce. I absolutely love sun-dried tomatoes and when I lived in Spain and couldn't find them, I had my dad mail me the oil-packed jars. They're not only good in pasta, I enjoy them in salads and sandwiches, too. How do you feel about them?

They look like what I would imagine a semi digested peyote button from the bowels of someone with severe and bloody dysentery would look like.  And they taste even worse.  They pretty much ruin anything they are served with.  Even the subtle, yet distinctive notes of baby harp seal seared in young porpoise fat could not survive the assault of a sundried tomato.  Die sun dried tomato!  Go back to the late 80's and early nineties and stay on the horrid pizzas of Wolfgang Puck.

The taste actually makes me gag. My first taste of them was a bagful, that I'd bought to snack on... and the gag reflex was instant the minute it touched my tongue.. I don't know why, as I love regular tomatoes.

I want to say I love them but for some reason, after I eat them my throat is always scratchy

I tried them on a pasta salad with way too much garlic and they were pulverized to look like a thick, cold spaghetti sauce and while they tasted interesting, I hated the dish. I need to try your pasta dish and decide again.

It really depends on the dish, I picked undecided.

When I see them on a menu, there's usually a 90% chance I'm going to order that dish. LOVE them.
