Taste Test: Starbucks Huevos Rancheros Wrap

While the Starbucks breakfast sandwich shuffle isn't new, the saga continues on. In the past month, the coffee chain's gotten rid of its piadinis, and added a Huevos Rancheros Wrap ($3.25) in their place. I often order the Spinach Feta Wrap (spinach, egg whites, tomatoes, and feta in a whole wheat wrap), so I couldn't wait to try its Mexican fiesta of a counterpart. I love the Spinach Feta Wrap's umami-rich flavors of roasted tomatoes and feta cheese — and the fact that, at 280 calories, nine grams of fat, and eight grams fiber, it's not so bad for you. To find out how the new Huevos Rancheros Wrap compared to the Spinach Feta Wrap,

.

The Huevos Rancheros Wrap, which has black beans, eggs, cheese, spicy peppers, and roasted tomatoes in a whole wheat wrap, is slightly less healthy. It has 330 calories, 15 grams of fat, and eight grams of fiber. On the plus side, at 640 mg of sodium, it has half the salt content of the feta wrap. But unfortunately, the wrap's extra calories don't translate to more flavor — the spicy peppers have no heat, and the wrap is severely lacking in the cheese and tomatoes department.

The Huevos Rancheros Wrap, while a creative concept, needs to go back to the drawing board for some recipe tweaks. For now, I'll stick to the solid (if salty) Spinach Feta Wrap. Have you tried the new wrap? What did you think of it?
