The chicken manufacturer Kayem Foods is pulling 59,203 pounds of fully cooked chicken sausage products from store shelves because there is a possibility that they contain small pieces of plastic. As a result, Trader Joe's announced that it has recalled its Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage [1]. The store urges its customers to avoid consuming any sausage from packages that are labeled:
- USE OR FREEZE BY APR 22 15
- USE OR FREEZE BY APR 25 15
- USE OR FREEZE BY APR 29 15
Trader Joe's is offering a full refund for the affected products. This recall extends beyond Trader Joe's and includes eight-ounce packages of Al Fresco Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage [2] with the case code 9709 and use or freeze-by dates of "JUN 13 2015" and "JUN 20 2015." It's a tough month for consumers out there, as Blue Bell Ice Cream [3] recalled all of its products just days ago due to a Listeria contamination. In March, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese [4] pulled many of its products because they possibly contained tiny shards of metal. Is any packaged food safe anymore?!
