Trend Alert: Dining and Drinking in Outrageous Places

It's happened to me more than once: After work I'll be waiting at the bus stop and think, man I could use a beer. It looks like I'm not the only one who had this idea: An entire town in the UK has turned a bus stop — complete with "open" sign and landlord — into a makeshift pub. As the price of food and eating out has become increasingly expensive, more and more people are looking for alternative ways to get together and enjoy a beer or meal. From bus stops to the middle of the sea to pubs on wheels, creative thinkers are pushing the envelope on when and where one can eat.

Why not host a dinner in a subway? After all, if there's fabulous food, good company, and plenty of drink, it doesn't matter where you are — a fun time will be had. My eyes are peeled for this type of unconventional roaming restaurant, and I'm dying to host my own dinner party in an unheard of location. How about you, got any suggestions? Have you been to a makeshift eatery of this sort?

the subway one is interesting. i hope they did it not at rush hour, though... that would be cruel.

I saw somehting about this on tv a while ago - it was a dinner club in Seattle (?) that invites a couple dozen people once a month to random places in the city for a really nice meal. It looked so interesting. I think they had it once in an old warehouse, once on a pier, once in the window of a boutique. It is meant to be an eclectic mix of people who don't know each other and it seemed to really spark interesting conversation. BTW - Kittie, UK is all-inclusive of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It doesn't just mean England. So, the write-up is correct.

subways are just dirty to me, all those underground fumes and so on...

ALTHOUGH, peole who run are crazy too! It hurts your knees, hurts your boobs, men stare at your butt and bouncing boobs and yell out disgusting things, you trip on cracks in the sidewalks that the city never seems to get around to fixing... Ok, I'm done ranting now! Ooooh, Pop should have a rants and raves section - that would be fun!!!

I meant "crazy people running AROUND" not like "people who run are crazy!" oops :)

I would never do the subway - there are so many creepy & crazy people running, they'd be constantly aproaching the table asking for free food or just outright harrassing us. The raft on water idea is fabulous though!

While I think it's an interesting concept, you might want to give the wording a bit of thought. England and Wales, where the makeshift pub actually took form, are two different countries.

I would try the Subway at least once just to see the look on people's faces as they enter the carriage!! After all, in Europe one can have dinner on trains like Eurostar and the Thalys. The boat looks great! I prefer sitting at a round table than a square one when I have dinner with friends; in that way you can see everyone's face.

That sounds (and probably smelled) amazing. I'd totally do that. It'd have to be somewhere other than Moscow though... Not so into Slavic foodstuffs.

I think it's a neat idea except on a subway. I know if I were trying to get home from work and I had to squeeze in because people were taking up so much space with a whole dinner table I'd be pissed off.

I don't understand the last picture. They just left the table, food, and plates on the subway?
