What Kind of Soy Sauce Do You Use?

Last time I went out for sushi, I debated over whether to use regular or reduced-sodium soy sauce. Reduced-sodium soy sauce is the condiment of choice for those who are watching sodium intake, as too much sodium can result in high blood pressure. Regular soy sauce, while definitely saltier, has more flavor, in my opinion. Ultimately, I opted for regular, but this prompted me to wonder what most people tend to use in their kitchens.

We use the low-sodium at home because it's better for you, but personally I think the regular tastes better. But I'm a fan of salt so there you go.

Either really is fine but I feel better being careful about my sodium intake

I use the high-test, but I'm careful not to use too much. Dipping a piece of nigiri sushi into the soy sauce correctly (ie. wetting only the fish) usually does the trick.

Mmmmmmm, liquid salt.... We use regular here, but I use it very rarely. My partner is more fond of it. I'm boring. I like my rice plain or with a dab of butter.

reduced sodium for cooking, and reg when i go out. If the place has reduced that we dine out too, I will have reduced sodium also, but not because i am watching my blood pressure...just because it is, i don't eat enough soy sauce to begin wtih to really notice a difference in the taste.

Low sodium! I usually mix my soy sauce with tons of wasabi when I eat sushi anyway, so I really can't tell the difference in taste! May as well go for the healthier option!

For cooking I need the regular soy sauce, but for sushi or whatever, I'll go with the low fave is hoisin sauce tho...yummm.

I can't tell the difference, so I opt for the reduced sodium (green cap!) I'm actually going for sushi tonight, and I'll be reaching for that one :]

I think sushi tastes better with reduced sodium soy sauce..the regular kind overpowers the flavor of the fish.

I always reach for the reduced when out. At home, it's usually regular. Funny, eh?

I totally think reduced-sodium tastes exactly the same as regular. So I go for that whenever it's the option!

I use both but only reduced sodium for sushi eating. I feel it allows the subtle flavors in the sushi to come through better.

The delicacy an nuances of good soy sauce are completely lost in either of the products pictures above. It is like comparing ketchup to a handmade oven-roasted marinara sauce. Go for the organic, small-batch shoyu (the real name for soy sauce)--it's far more gentle and appropriate for an application like sushi.

Low Sodium soy is like Diet Coke, once you switch everything else (ie regular soy, Regular Coke) tastes too sweet and too salty!

I prefer the low sodium. I feel better after eating that as opposed to the full sodium variety, and I also think it has a better flavor.

i typically try to get the reduced sodium kind - not for any other reason aside from i think it could be healthier. luckily i don't have to worry about the sodium that's in the regular kind since i have low blood pressure, i still think that it doesn't hurt to be conscious about things...

I use half and half, i also use dark mushroom soy for some recipes.
