We *always* shop at Trader Joe's! They have the best price and selection especially if you don't have kids. If cost was an issue and you're hunting for bargains then Safeway all the way...Calculating costs it's cheaper than Costco at times.

I wouldn't and couldn't survive without my WHOLE FOODS!!!!! Sadly, when I go home to visit, there is NONE close by! The only thing we have where HOME is, is an Albertsons!!!! Whole Foods ROCKS my life!!!!! Their brussel sprouts are to die for, and that grilled salmon! Hm Hm Hm!

I love Trader Joe's.
KIA, I've heard of that. But, I didn't know how to go about it. This next spring, however, us and a few friends are all going to grow our own seperate organic gardens and then exchange. Plus, I get to go out to west Texas and pick up AWESOME organic veggies straight from the farm anytime I get the time. Thank goodness my boyfriend's Grandpa still believes in doing everything the old way! He still works his huge garden (so big, that's why I call it a farm, it's atleast 2 acres worth of veggies) everyday, and collects chicken eggs every evening, and he turns 83 in Feb.!!

No much of a choice...Walmart or Krogers... but there are Natural Food Stores in the cities as well.

Any of you out there who don't have Wegmans really do not know what you're missing! However, most of the new Wegmans that they are building are nicer than the original Upstate NY stores in place now. But we have more of them - haha!

99 Ranch!!! One opened up in Dublin, CA and it's addicting! Great produce at great prices. I stopped going to Safeway when I realized that Safeway was ripping me off!!! Trader Joe's is my second pick.

I like Publix. I think Whole Foods is overated. Their prepared foods don't really taste that good overall. Also, I can never do a complete shopping there. I still have to go to Publix afterwards. My neighborhood Publix has a very good selection of items.

HEB. Exists only in Texas as far as I know, but it's the best. HEB is the middleman between Whole Foods and Wal-Mart (both of which have dark sides that I'm not too fond of).

I love my local co-op. It's a bit on the small side, but the food is wunnnnnerful!!!! Don't even get me started about summertime when they are overflowing with local, usually organic, produce. The mood of both customers and employees alike is soooo much better than at the larger chains. And buying only what I need from the bulk section helps save me some pretty sizable ca-ching!

Here in central Ohio, I mainly shop at Giant Eagle (regional chain). But when I lived in Western Massachusetts, I was able to get locally grown stuff. Someone above mentioned CSAs (community supported agriculture), which is a fantastic way to get vegetables, if you can find one in your area. I don't know of any near me now. :(

I work at the corporate headquarters of one of those stores, and I'm biased. I do agree with Janellethechef that Central Market is great, though that didn't get my vote. I'm pretty sure they're only in Texas, though.

mm hyvee! they don't have any in minneapolis: sad day also, i just miss being able to buy full abv booze in the grocery store!
My favorite grocery store is Central Market, but the closest one is a 30 minute drive. I drive out there when I get the chance, but their food totally makes it worth it! I just wish they'd put one in my town.
