What's Your Favorite Grocery Store of 2008?

What's Your Favorite Grocery Store of 2008?

As we continue our coverage of the Best of 2008, I want to know which grocer is your favorite.

This year, we saw the cost of food increase across the board. With consumers on a tighter budget, pricier grocers such as Whole Foods have suffered. To keep up, these supermarkets are advertising deeper discounts.

Has 2008's economic environment affected your grocery store preferences at all?

WEGMANS!!!! We just got a Wegmans in our town this past summer. On opening day it was like being in a Disney World parking lot. It was like I was parked in goofy 6 and was waiting for a trolley to take me up to the gate. Wegmans > everthing else.

Wegmans is the best grocery store EVER! It's like Whole Foods but less expensive and with a better selection. I also buy almost all my frozen food from Trader Joe's.

Hey, where's Aldi on that list?? I LOVE Aldi's! The prices are phenomenal and they have a pretty decent selection. They also encourage you to bring your own bags and I love how you have to deposit a quarter to use the carts...people don't leave them all over the parking lot.

SO glad to find fellow Wegmans devotees!!! I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't have one close by. :ponder: I feel bad for all the people in the world with no Wegmans.

Wal-Mart... it's the only option to shop around here.

Out of those choices, we only have Walmart and I hate Walmart. I LOVE ALDI's. If we had one here, I'd shop at Earthfare also.

Wegmans, absolutely. One of the hardest things for me to deal with living out west is grocery shopping anywhere but Wegmans... My boyfriend and I used to live across the street from a Wegmans, and would go there 4 or 5 times a week. I could plan out the most elaborate meals for us with an unbelieveable array of fresh, foreign, and fancy ingredients right at my fingertips. My boyfriend(the non-cook) could always go through and speak with one of the on-hand chefs who would give him dumb-downed recipes and ready to heat and serve creations that they made fresh daily. As you can tell, Wegmans is like Mecca for me. :notworthy: Thankfully, my bf and I are moving back to the northeast by next spring :D

Publix, because their staff seems to always be sincere and friendly. And their stores are super clean.

I don't really shop that often at any of those places. My favorite grocery stores are HEB, and Central Market (which is kinda like Whole Foods) under HEB, here in Houston TX.

Other choice- I shop Brookshires. They have the freshest produce, the best customer service and prices are competitive as well.

I wanted an "Other" choice, as well. I used to shop at Safeway all the time, but my sis-in-law turned me on to Winco Foods. It's soooooo inexpensive, I don't know how they do it. And it's employee owned, whatever that means. It's a little bit dumpy (because it's sort of warehouse-like), but the selection, the prices, and the fun extras and KILLER BULK SECTION will have me going back, every time!

OTHER. I chose Publix due to it's great circular and customer service. Their kiosk offering samples of meals featured in their circular is my fave.

Anyone else know Nugget Markets? I was just there over the weekend, and I realized how much I love looking at all of their stuff and spending time there :)

it was a close tie but Whole Foods won for me. my second fav though is Costco cause i can get just about everything that i need/want and i don't have to shop as often.

I'm giving my Midwestern vote to Meijer! I guess I'm biased since the headquarters are here in Grand Rapids, MI!
