What's Your Favorite Hometown Specialty?

Let's Dish: What's Your Favorite Hometown Specialty?

In my hometown, there's a Japanese/Korean restaurant that my family has been going to for almost two decades, and it's a tradition that if I'm visiting, we will have at least one dinner of yaki mandu, shrimp tempura rolls, Korean BBQ short ribs, and bulgogi at the eatery. And I'm not the only one: I have a friend who has to find the first gas station once passing our country's northern border to get his hands on ketchup-flavored chips. Whether it's a favorite eatery or brewing facility, a packaged treat, or local shellfish, we all have something we can't wait to dig into once we land on our homegrown soil. What's yours?

I'm originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, so whenever we go back, I need to have some scrapple for breakfast. Also, I make sure I eat as many Tastykake products as possible!

chicago's costello sandwich shop. amazing. pittsburgh -- obviously primanti brothers (all other sandwiches with fries on them bow to primanti's).

Ticamorena - eaten many pizzas from Icco but prefer the pizzerias in NJ where I grew up! But more than pizza it's yummy authentic bagels from NJ. Crusty and chewy, no need to toast because they have so much bite to them. Hard to find outside of the NY tristate area - trust me, I've looked!

when in asturias, definitely milhojas de merengue from any of the bakeries in gijón or oviedo; when in london, old harbour bay on roman road for jamaican, icco pizza on goodge street, meds for a middle east/ east london fusion on burdett road and ofcourse many of the joints in shoreditch (these are all 'locals' even for a big city like london); in brussels great crepes at la maison des crepes near bourse and everything else belgian (mussels & fries; waffles, desserts) at sablon.

Hmmm. I live in my hometown and can't think of any resturant that truly excites me in the South Bay. But when my hubby and I go back to visit San Diego (we both lived there for years for school) we always have to hit up Fillipi's in little Italy. The pizza, the primavera, the atmosphere. Love it!

I'm from Québec City - Ashton's poutine, seafood, Coffee Crisps, Crush cream soda, bagels, smoked meat sandwiches, corn dogs, Tim Hortons doughnuts, General Tao chicken, fried chicken,... I only go back to North America once or twice a year. I'm sure people think I'm training for an eating contest when I'm back home. I miss the food that much.

I'm from Petaluma, CA and there is only one place that comes to mind: Lucchesi's Deli. Best sandwiches ever!

One cannot leave Minneapolis without grooving upon the wonder that is the Jucy/Juicy Lucy. The spelling may vary, but the concept never does: hearty burgers stuffed with a molten cheese interior. Bacon optional. Who's your daddy?! :feedme:

Detroit -- Middle eastern foodeverywhere; I like to stop by the party store to get sandwich made with lamb off the spit. I love Detroit style deep dish pizza, too.
