Would You Eat Bone Marrow?

I recently went out to dinner and found an intriguing dish on the appetizer menu: bone marrow served with little toasts. A long, skinny spoon is used to scoop the marrow out of the bone. It can be spread on the toast, or eaten alone. The flavor is surprisingly delicious and rich. It's a bit oily, but the texture is smooth. Similar to paté's flavor palate (only not so livery), bone marrow is a rare treat that I highly recommend. What do you think, could you eat bone marrow?

Regarding the comments about animal cruelty in eating other body parts, in some areas of the world, including where my parents come from, people are in extreme poverty and wasting any part of the animal would mean less food for your children to eat. Now I fully respect vegetarians/vegans but I feel that a human life is more important than the respect for an animal's body parts for consumption. Many don't have the luxury of ordering tofu burgers or other vegatarian dishes as we do here in America. My mother still makes this dish because it's something she grew up with, in a family of 10 siblings and very little money or opportunity for work. It's something I've grown to enjoy very much, and I think it's delicious. My family believes in not wasting any part of the animal, so I've eaten everything from tongue to stomach to ears to feet. I see that as better than killing an animal solely for a few choice cuts and throwing the rest away. I usually eat this in a broth, with cabbage, various veggies, and other pieces of tender meat. Oh and I MUST smush it in my rice! Yum...

Nobody has said "I tried it and it's gross!", so I guess I'd give it a chance.

If you hadn't described it then I would have said no way, but you described it well enough that I could try it.

I love meat, and will try most things, but this just seems really unappetizing to me

Glad someone cleared up the sweet breads issue. I've never had the opportunity to have this but I'd love to. I love my veggies but I'm no vegan! Holy cow and I mean that is the most loving fashion.

It's delish! But very rich-tasting. I could only eat one of the three pieces I was served at dinner a few months back.

A month ago I would have said 'NO!' After reading Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain, I am inclined to say "sure, I'll try it!" All the stories of his travels and amazing food have inspired me to be open to anything... life's too short! Also, I've heard it's really delicious.

I'm a vegetarian, but even in my meat-eating days, this would be too out there for me. It just doesn't look or sound appetizing -- something gelatinous coming from the inside of a bone???

I'm pretty sure the broth that the traditional Vietnamese soup (Pho) I've grown up on is made with bone marrow. I don't think I'd eat the marrow straight out of the bone, but the soup is super awesome and yummy.
