I love going to San Francisco and getting clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl! Oh and I have a degree in Biology. Still eat clams ;) Oysters too!

I was going to say white, but then I realized I don't think I've ever had red!

I'm with Roberto on this one - if you're going to eat a red seafood stew, just go whole hog and get some nice, garlicky cioppino. When I'm in the mood for chowder, it's gotta be New England style - with lots of hot, crusty bread! Oooh, I haven't had lobster bisque in a while. That sounds gooood, too!

In Texas, there's not a lot of opportunities to eat clam chowder, white or red.

I didn't even know there was a red clam chowder. I've only ever had white. I like that it looks thick and tastes delicious!

White - it's more classic.

Red is great and has far less calories and fat than the white version.

The best clam chowder I've ever had was in a restuarant (I can't remember the name) a few years ago on Pier 39 in San Francisco, but it was White and they served it to you in a bread was so good!

Come to think of it, the best chowder I ever ate was from a small Mom and Pop seafood shack south of Boston. It was cream based, with shrimp, lobster and scallops. No clams. And the slightest bit of tomato gave it a nice rosey glow. A mixture of the best of both worlds. Perfection!
