Are You Buddies With Your Barista?

I'm not ashamed to admit that I am a Starbucks addict. I get my double short cappuccino every morning at exactly the same time. Currently my all time favorite thing about my daily trip downstairs - literally there is a Starbucks downstairs - is my baristas. These boys know how to make a gal feel special, make wonderful caps, and make a day brighter. We know each other on a first name basis and they call me princess, darling, and honey while I entertain them with the latest details of my dating life. All of this got me wondering are they just buddies with me or simply great at their jobs? Please reader, do tell: Are you buddies with your barista?

I usually visit the local Starbucks that's not that far from where I live and work. I'm not quite on a first name basis yet but the Batista's recognize me when I come in. I love Starbucks for that reason the friendly Batista's and atmosphere. :)

I usually frequent a Starbucks not far from where i live and work. The Batista's don't know me on a first name basis as of yet but they recognize me every time i come in. I love everyone that works there they're all very friendly and nice :) Just adds to the things I love about Starbucks.

I wish I could drink starbucks everyday! I don't go regularly enough for me to know the baristas or for them to know me but I wanna be close friends with my barista when I do! Oh to be that sophisticated.

The guys at the Starbucks I visit most frequently know me by my tattoo - They forget my name and my drink, but know that my right bicep is inscribed with "Bewitched". I realized this one day when the guy calling the drink thought my name was Tabitha because of the tattoo- when I was dressed in a hoodie and jeans. He almost got the name right, and used the tattoo for its purpose- its a almost too subtle reminder that my name is Samantha, although only cool people get it without explanation.

I don't get a lot of Starbucks, but all the baristas as the independent coffee shop in my building know me and chat with me, and vice versa. One guy in particular is always super nice, so I make sure to always leave good tips! Then again I usually am super friendly with foodservice people...hell, I met my boyfriend when he was my waiter a few years ago. :) (OK, I'm not THAT friendly with all of the people who deal with my food!)

i worked at a coffee shop this past year while up at school, and i have to say, you definitely become friends with the customers. half the time though, their names may be "medium hazelnut cream 1 sugar" man, you still enjoy seeing them everyday at the same time. That routine that people have, becoming part of their day, i loved it! not working their anymore... i really do miss some of the customers and their daily updated stories

I am currently a barista and I would have to say that one of my favorite things about the job is meeting all sorts of interesting people and getting to know all my regulars =)

I don't go out for my espresso... I brew it at home. But I do get a Mate Late every day from Argo Tea. And they know my name and my drink when I walk in.

i am currently a barista and i've gotten to know so many great people (co-workers and customers) while working there. i think the type of interaction you get with your barista really depends on what kind of person he/she is and what he/she makes of their job. although i am ALL for small local businesses, i really do appreciate the company for taking care of its employees (full benefits for only working 20hrs/week!). also their coffee beans are purchased at or nearly fair trade prices which probably can't be said of other major (store bought or other) brands. ok that was a long comment. i am not a starbucks robot! haha

I find that I'm more likely to find friendly baristas at local independent coffeehouses. Starbucks baristas seem to be less likely to strike up conversations; slightly robotic sometimes.

I don't drink coffee and I don't go to the same places often enough to form relationships with the people working there.

Other - I WAS a barista throughout college and I loved the relationship I had with the regulars. One time a woman said to me, "I always get really excited when I enter the shop and see that you're working the bar, because that means I'm going to get my drink EXACTLY how I like it." I loved joking around with people, it made the work fun & fly by. I'd even borrow books and talk about my classes with certain regulars. I joked with my friends that one of the regulars, who was a professor of journalism at Harvard, was my mentor, because he would talk for hours to me (while I worked) about my future and ambitions. Okay, this post got me really excited.

I would not go to Starbucks ever. This big corporation is putting many of our local coffee houses out of business. These local places have been part of our community for years.

I drink tea! But since I usually drink it at home (I despise Starbucks tea) I only once in a while end up going to random Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations in LA so I couldn't form a relationship with a barista anyway.

You know amandaaa, you need a good nickname for your sugar name. I usually just use the first one or two syllables, but I guess in this case that doesn't work so well. :rotfl: so tell us all, what would you like to be called?
