Oreo has blessed our taste buds with not one but two new flavors to start 2020 on a sweet note: Chocolate Marshmallow and Caramel Coconut! The snack brand officially dropped the chocolatey and caramely cookies at major retailers nationwide on Jan. 6, conveniently just in time to ruin our clean-eating New Year's resolutions. Hey, I'm not complaining!
The Caramel Coconut flavor features a caramel creme with real coconut bits sandwiched between two classic chocolate cookies and has garnered pretty mixed reviews so far. One person [1] noted that the cream has a "burnt, bitter" aftertaste, but another commented [2] that "the coconut pieces makes this Oreo shine in a league of its own." Meanwhile, the Chocolate Marshmallow option has two chocolate cookies with pieces of actual marshmallow in them, and the creme is also chocolate marshmallow flavored. As one review stated [3], "The cookies definitely have a pronounced marshmallow flavor. Also, the marshmallow bits (which I think are marbits, the dehydrated marshmallows found in cereal) in the cookie add some chewiness to the cookies."
This isn't the first time Oreo has incorporated notes of caramel and marshmallow into its famous cookie sandwiches. Back in 2015, Caramel Apple Oreos [5] hit shelves for a limited time, and two years later, Salted Caramel Oreo Thins [6] made their grand debut. On top of that, Marshmallow Moon Oreos [7] came out last Summer, honoring the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing with a purple marshmallow-flavored creme. Needless to say, I've already got a cup of milk prepped for dunking the latest flavor additions.
