Before and After: An Apartment Turned Guesthouse in Barcelona

Before and After: A Guesthouse in Barcelona

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Velocista from the Su Casa group about how she turned her upstairs apartment into a guesthouse, thanks to some inspiration from Casa!

Hi everyone,

I'm a CasaSugar reader from Barcelona. In the last few months, I've been taking notes of tips, ideas, and recommendations on CS to make my own project: transform the apartment upstairs into a guesthouse. It was a challenge because the building was built in 1902 and many things, like ceilings, were untouched since. We hired a professional to take down the old walls and put new ones, install new plumbing and drainage and do a part of the electricity. The rest, better or worse, we did it ourselves with the help of family and friends. It was exhausting, mainly because we wanted to open for the summer, but we also learned a lot of things. Now we're finally open and I can say it was worth the effort and all those trips to furniture stores and DIY warehouses. Thanks to everyone who posted a tip or an idea on CS!

This is the before, but after we started installing new walls:

And now the before and after photos. . .

Some of the furniture was also renovated, like the chairs and table in the first picture. We bought them secondhand very cheap and sanded them down, re-varnished them, and repainted until they looked like they do now. This is a before picture:

Have you been doing any redecorating lately? Be sure to post photos and tales in the Su Casa group!

I think you did a really good job. I would totally stay there if it weren't for the super tiny kitchen.

Really really incredible. I want to move right into that kitchen and have a cup of coffee. I love the ledge along the wall!
