Before and After: An Eco-Oriented Bathroom Remodel

New Jersey residents Mark and Linda Beckelmen decided that it was high time to renovate the bathroom in their 1929 craftsman. They wanted to stick to a reasonable budget, and upgrade the bathroom with green features. As it stood, their bathroom was dated by laminate and wallpaper that needed to go elsewhere — stat.

To see how the couple updated their bathroom,

Working with a local designer who specializes in green renovations, the Beckelmens chose products such as concrete-and-recycled-glass countertops, sustainable wood cabinets, a dual flush toilet, and sconces that use CFLs.

I think the best thing you can do is reuse materials you already have in your home. I'm taking the cabinet out of my bathroom and reusing in my kitchen as a pantry. I'm also just going to paint the cabinets in my kitchen at least for now. It's so much cheaper too.

Besides the wallpaper (not a fan of wallpaper!), I didn't think the before photo looked too bad. But the after is definitely nicer!
