Before and After: Midcentury Modern Sofa

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Carolynz from the Su Casa group:

Our 1968 deckhouse is a slow work in progress.  One of the biggest projects I have gotten completed to date is this sofa. I bought it on Craigslist with 2 coordinating chairs (which are waiting patiently at the reupholsterer!) for $275 — it's 9 feet long!

Here is the before shot from the CL seller:

To see how it looked like after it was reupholstered,

And here is the after — immediately after it was delivered by the upholsterers — obviously my daughter & her friend are thrilled with it.

@ Jessica Eubanks- I shopped around for quotes, mainly e-mailing pictures & measurements when possible. I wanted the option to use my own fabric- some places charge extra for this since some places sell the fabric and make a profit there. Anyway, I got all new foam cushions made and provided my own fabric and the labor & foam cost for the sofa was $800- fabric cost was separate.

I actually love the sofa and fabric. I would like to see the sofa and two chairs in the final setting.

The sofa isn't in front of the green wall- I just snapped that immediately upon delivery- it sits in front of our fireplace and behind it are 3 sliders. Glowing Moon I would have LOVED to have done it in leather (in fact the larger of the 2 accompanying chairs is being redone in leather) but that was cost prohibitive. Not only is leather more expensive than the nicest of fabrics, but it's also more expensive for labor. Maybe it's next reincarnation after we are out of the cheerio phase will be in leather!

I must confess I dislike it, too. I think reupholstering it with LEATHER would have been better. That would have been an improvement. Also, if it's done well, the leather would have given the piece cleaner lines, which is a design feature of this piece. JMHO.

It's a great piece, but I'm not a fan of the fabric, either. To each her own, I guess! I do love the paint color on the walls.

I don't love it. With those green looks very 70s.

I love it! Actually, I liked the blue as well - I could see that working in a room that didn't have the wood paneling to throw it back a few eras. That's really awesome to have found a couch that long (and to have room for it!).

Looks like you just took it from the 60's to the 70's though. Besides looking cleaner then before I don't like it.
