Bridesmaid's Dress Pillow DIY

Cool Idea: A Pillow Made From a Bridesmaid's Dress!

If the Katherine Heigl flick 27 Dresses hit too close to home, you may have a couple dozen poofy, raw silk bridesmaid's dresses tucked into the back of your closet. Or maybe you're still holding onto that a cotillion gown or high school homecoming number that'll never again see the light of day. If that's the case, take a note from an Examiner blogger who saw DIY potential in an old bridesmaid's dress. After dismantling her dress, it took her just a few easy steps and some simple sewing to create a trendy dimensional rose pillow from the leftover fabric. Très chic, n'est-ce pas?

I think we too often discard apparel that doesn't fit or is dated without considering other ways to use the materials. If this girlie rose pillow isn't the look you're after, you could just as easily make a pillow with modern wide stripes or a chevron pattern, or even make something entirely different like a tote bag. Do you have any spare bridesmaid's dresses laying around that are worthy of a makeover?

Perfect! I've been dying to get rid of a bridesmaids dress in my closet (despite the bride typically insisting "It's something you can wear even after the wedding!").

Hmmm, I do have a burgundy bridesmaid's dress hanging in my closet. Hideous dress, but a pretty color...
