I Finally Found the Perfect Sustainable Comforter — Now it's 30% Off

The comforter arrived in an extremely small box. In fact, it was so small, I almost didn't spot it in the pile of packages in my apartment building's lobby.

No, this isn't a diaper. The comforter is vacuum-packed for compact shipping, which I very much appreciate. Less waste and a smaller footprint is a win-win in my book.

After opening it up, there was a prominent loose thread that I trimmed with scissors. Hopefully, this doesn't mean the stitching will unravel in the coming months, but only time will tell. There was also a bit of a chemical packaging smell to it, similar to what you get when you first open a mattress. For being a "chemical-free" comforter, this was a bit concerning. I aired it out for a day before using it, and it dissipated fairly quickly over the following week.

I really like the look of the triangle stitching pattern, especially since one of the reasons I wanted to try out a comforter versus a duvet was to not have to mess with a duvet cover. After years of dealing with the epic battle of wrangling the duvet into the duvet cover just to be readjusted on a nightly basis, the ease of a simple comforter is a dream (literally).

That said, there is a bit of a sheen to the comforter that I don't love (it's hard to tell in the photo), but it's not a dealbreaker.

From night one, this comforter has been a game changer. It's light and soft (they weren't kidding with the cloud comparisons) and cool to the touch, but even on chilly Winter nights, it kept me toasty. More impressively, it didn't overheat my husband, who can barely handle more than a sheet, he runs so hot. He's a very light sleeper and picky when it comes to bedding, so the fact that he's obsessed with it is a legit seal of approval.

Even though it's only been a few weeks, I'm totally hooked on the Buffy. I love that it's less fussy than a duvet with a duvet cover, and the fact that it's machine washable is a huge plus for this low-maintenance (read: lazy) apartment dweller. The most impressive thing about it, though, is how breathable it is and that it manages to regulate the temperature for two people on opposite ends of the hot-cold scale. That's what really makes the biggest impact for a better night's sleep. That, and it's just so damn fluffy!
