We were a bit surprised when we first laid eyes on Cameron Diaz's newly unveiled West Village apartment in the October issue of Elle Decor. Gone are any traces of the carefree California surfer girl image that we have come to expect from Cameron. Instead, the 2,400-square-foot, pre-war apartment is full of over-the-top luxurious details: raw-silk-lined drawers, doors covered in hammer-clad metal, and closets adorned with custom wallpaper. "It's a bit like living in a jewel box!" says Cameron. In other words, pure grown-up glamour à la Kelly Wearstler. Cameron and Kelly (who is herself the movie star equivalent of an interior designer) worked very closely to design the space, and they both feel that it is pure Cameron. "The palette reflects Cameron herself," says Kelly. "It's innately sexy without being overly flashy." For her part, Cameron enjoyed the entire process and will in fact miss the long design meetings, where she got to "look at, touch, and talk about beautiful things." Below is a look at Cameron's beautiful new apartment.
Kelly on working with Cameron during the design process: "I learn new things with every client, but Cameron taught me to be more sensitive to the hand of fabrics and textiles. She was so involved in every step, every choice, that I'm delighted by how well the place represents her. Cameron has excellent taste and understands how colors work together and why quality pieces make rooms special."
Cameron on her design loves: "I blame my love of sparkly, shiny things on my Cuban roots."
Cameron on home: "I'm surrounded by things that mean something to me. That's what a home is."
