Casa Craving Challenge: Seaside Cottage Chic

Welcome to our first Casa Craving Challenge! Every Thursday on CasaSugar, I'll give you a decorating theme — an inspiring photograph, a hot trend, or a specific room — and I'll ask you to go Casa Craving for items that fit the theme. In case you missed it, here's a post explaining what a Casa Craving is and how to create one.

Since we're in the midst of Summer, I'm devoting this week's Casa Craving challenge to Seaside Cottage Chic. Beach-inspired decor is tough: Too many pastels and seashells, and your room look like a 1980s Florida condo. So I'm thinking more along the lines of this seaside cottage featured in the August 2007 of Better Homes and Gardens. I love how the blue-and-white palette and driftwood accents evoke the beach without a bit of tackiness.

What would be your seaside cottage essentials? Tell me by creating Casa Cravings for the furniture, accessories, and accents you think would best complete the look. I'll feature the results next Wednesday, August 1. Be sure to tag your Cravings with the phrase seaside cottage, or create a list of your seaside cottage bookmarks. Please let me know if you have any questions. For a list of online home stores to try,

I love the beach cottage look and would really do that with my house if it were a more open design with more windows. I think that just by using that pallette and putting up a few ocean-y touches you really can transform your place into a summer beach oasis. You don't need to go overboard and run the risk of things looking silly and overdone. I love this room. It's really pretty and laid back, not uptight at all. It's calming and makes me wanna have a nice dinner on the patio and curl up with a book.

I love that whole look. It's so clean, comfortable, yet modern. I would never really think of painting a living room area that color of robin's egg blue. I use a lot of color in my house, but I guess I'm not that daring. Now I want to paint my dining room. Maybe not blue like that...but to think outside of the box on the color

For me --a seaside cootage essentials wouyld be a hammock, bamboo floors (real bamboo logs), grass roof, and a narra bed . I don't like seasehells as decor. The seashells belong to the beach shores. Also , an open air lanai is great and rattan and bamboo furnishings
