Casa Quickie: Go For the Gloss

Some people worry that dark shades will make a room feel too cavernous in the daytime, or smaller and more reclusive than it really is. But if there's a color you love, nothing should stop you from putting it up on your walls. One way to get around that is to paint your walls in a high-gloss finish. The sheen of the paint will reflect natural light around the room beautifully — something that a matte paint simply can't do. This finish does make imperfections more visible though, so you should make sure to sand and smooth the surface thoroughly before painting. It's also a great way to give traditional décor a more fresh, updated look. Try it!

I guess it depends on the shade, but I find glossy paint gives off a distinct public-washroom vibe.
