At our house, it's sometimes unbearably hot in the afternoon and early evening in our living room, so instead of fighting it, we migrate to the office, bedroom, or backyard. I definitely do this. Also keeping the windows and shades closed when it's hot out helps a lot. Open up the windows when the sun goes down especially if there is a nice breeze.
