Casa Quickie: Salt Stains on Carpet

If you live in a snowy climate, chances are that family and visitors may be tracking salt into your home on the bottoms of their boots. Of course, the first line of defense is to ask everyone to take their shoes off in your entry. But what if your entry rug, or other carpeted space in your home, gets stained with the salt?

Just use a bit of distilled white vinegar and a scrub brush. Scrub gently, making sure to use a moderate (though not overly generous — you don't want a ton of splashing) amount of vinegar. Rub it in and then blot it with a dish towel. This also works well for carpeting in cars! Source

Thank you so much!! The salt stains I have seem out of control - but I am a neat freak so maybe they're not SO bad ;)

Hmmm what about berber carpet? My apt has berber and for some reason whenever water or anything liquid gets on it it leaves this "dark" spot. I don't get it. Maybe you could do a post about all about cleaning berber carpeting because the one in my apt is driving me nuts. I've tried every sort of cleaning agent on it and it still shows "dark spots" wherever I've tried to clean. Ughhhhhhhhhhh.

Thank you SO much for this! I was just complaining to my husband yesterday about the salt and how it drives me nuts when it gets tracked all over our carpets.
