Casa Quickie: Take Your Shoes Off

By simply taking off your shoes upon entering your house, you can reduce the amount of pollutants in it. This means less vacuuming and dusting time for you, but it also means improved air quality and that dust, allergens, and dirt will be less likely to cause an asthma attack or allergic reaction in residents.

Shoes in the house feels so dirty! I even wipe my dog's feet off every time we come inside - I just can't stand dirt being tracked in from outside!

I always prefer shoes off in a house. I've even thought about buying spare slippers for guests.

We've just relocated all of our shoes to one of the front all closets (there are two) it makes it super convenient. Growing up it was never a "rule" in our house, it just happened. When I'm in a house with my shoes on I always feel like I'm about to leave :)

I'm asian so you know I've been trained to do this.

this seems so normal to me - taking off your shoes indoors. i don't understand how it works to NOT: like do you have a pair of shoes near your bed and put them on in the morning or do you have socks on and then they get dirty because you've walked all over the house with shoes on and slip those now dirty socks into your shoes?! it makes me mad when people come over and don't take their shoes off. so gross.

That is one thing I will never understand, walking around the house in filthy shoes. Who knows what you step in outside! I think it's partly a cultural thing, I didn't see this until I moved to the states. The first time someone walked into my house with their shoes on, I was like "what are you doing?" not realizing it was the norm! I also don't find it comfortable either, I usually can't wait to kick off my shoes as soon as I walk in the door.

Now if only my dog would clean her feet on her own, she's the main one who makes our floors dirty.

When I moved from Hawaii to Oregon, I was shocked to see people cruising around the house with their shoes on. That just seems so gross to me! Especially when you have a baby in the house. :O

Taking my shoes off is the first thing I do when I get home...I think that comes from my parents' "training". We were never allowed to wear shoes in the house growing up. And I hate when people do in my house too!

Growing up in Hawaii I always took my shoes off when going into a house. I think it might be either a Hawaii thing or an Asian thing. It's still weird to me to see people wearing shoes around the house, it just feels kind of dirty.

My sister always makes me do this when I go to her house and to be honest, it's very annoying especially if I'm constantly in and out of her house!

We always take off our shoes as soon as we get in the house. I have asthma i never realized that this helped anything, i just hate wearing shoes and growing up my mom was constantly washing the kitchen floor so no shoes were allowed.

Hmmmmm I don't do this but I guess I should since my cat has super bad allergies, although putting them in my closet wouldn't that still bring in those allergens??

I thought everyone took their shoes on when they came into a house. SOMETIMES very rarely I might leave them on to grab somethign I forgot, btu other then that they always come off! Plus it's a sign a respect in my opinion.

My mom is a big believer in this. When she lived in Canada, she and family members did this all the time. Our house is a bit different though, so its not as effective. It's still a good idea though.
