Chip and Joanna Gaines are seemingly everywhere lately. The stars of HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper have turned their Waco-based brand Magnolia Homes into a lifestyle empire. Their latest business venture is a quarterly magazine entitled The Magnolia Journal. Business wasn't always booming like it is today. The couple sat down with People Magazine for the October 24, 2016 cover story and admitted that there was a time when money was tight.
Chip, who began flipping houses in college, couldn't convince his father-in-law that what he was doing was real work. Joanna joked that the first two years of their marriage her father kept asking him when he was going to get a job. The candid couple even revealed that before they were famous, they were such broke newlyweds that they had to pay for everything in cash. Even groceries were limited to how much Chip had in his pocket. Fortunately, they've come a long way since then, and we're sure Joanna's dad is finally convinced Chip has a real job!
