Cool Idea: Fornasetti DVD

The iconic work of Italian designer Piero Fornasetti featuring the enigmatic face of soprano Lina Cavalieri has enjoyed many interpretations in the design world as of late. Now, the victorious imagery has been re-envisioned as animated art. First in a series of three limited editions, Detour Design has created an animated DVD featuring many of the over 500 Fornasetti images slowly moving and morphing into artistic shapes, meant as purely visual decorative art for your flat screen. The DVD goes for $175, which is a steep but quite arty alternative to the crackling fireplace I snatched up at Virgin Megastore for three bucks. You can watch clips of the DVD here.
