Creating Fake Molding on Your Walls

Cool Idea: Fabulous Faux Molding

Looking to add some depth to your plain walls? You could pop in some molding to create panels, but I kinda love the idea of painting your own trompe-l'œil molding instead. Choose three paint colors to create a Victorian effect, or simply use a ruler to paint in one bold color that will literally frame your wall.

Before taking the brush to the wall, you may want to sketch out your design and even paint it up on a large piece of butcher paper so you won't be surprised with the overall effect. Once you have your design settled, use a pencil to mark the lines to ensure straight and level dimensions. What do you think of the painted frames?

In need of a headboard instead? Check out my tutorial on how to paint a trompe l'œil headboard!
