Try This at Home: Turn Tableware Into Decor

When we toured the Sunset Idea House yesterday, we were wowed by so many of the elements from interior designer Sharon Portnoy's vision. We especially loved this idea from the dining room: using tableware as wall decor!

Portnoy mounted these boxes on the wall, which blend into the background wall color seamlessly. She then used a vintage pitcher and glassware from One Kings Lane, mounting them as one would any other piece of sculptural artwork. Since they're in such close proximity to the dining table, it would be easy to pull out these special pieces for a dinner party.

To make the look work at your home, use a shadow box or mounted box that can be painted to match the background wall color. Then make sure to pick your most beautiful serving pieces to display in the boxes. What special piece do you own that would look great out on display?
