Do You Grow Herbs Indoors in the Winter?

When I lived in the snowy Midwest, I always kept a kitchen window herb garden during the Winter, and also grew alfalfa sprouts in a jar. Having something green in such a snowy part of the year kept my spirits up, and also added flavor to my cooking. Do you grow herbs or other edibles indoors in the Winter?

I'm trying to, but my rosemary's dying. :( The leaves are turning brown/black and drying.

I haven't yet but I was planning on do so this year... mainly to help with the grocery bill, fresh herbs cost a lot!

I don't have enough light for this. Luckily I can still grow some herbs outside in the winter where I live (parsley, chives, cilantro, rosemary). the oregano and sage die back a little if it freezes, but rebound quickly. the basil died out as soon as it started getting cool at night.

I don't really know how to do this. Do they need a certain amount of light or anything?
