Do You Have a Dining Room?

Having a formal dining room in addition to your kitchen is one of those luxuries that apartment-dwellers often don't have. Are you one of the lucky ones?

I live on the top floor of an old victorian, so when my kitchen was built (in the 1950s) they went for a formal dining room to off-set my itty, bitty, teeny, tiny kitchen (I don't even have countertops!). We're forced to eat there (which I don't mind, I refuse to eat in front of the TV) but I wish to do more with the room. Right now we've just got a hand-me-down 2 person table in there.

we just have one space for eating. we have a nice dining table and chairs - used for eating on all occasions. we got a nice all-wood Bjorna table from IKEA - big enough for up to 10 people with the leaf in. we won't ever need to replace it.

very pretty, but the chairs could be upgraded some.

I do. When I was looking at houses, I told the realtor I needed one and she couldnt understand why. She said it was a very "east coast" thing and "old fashioned". She had no idea I was both.

We have an open floorplan with a sizable dining area. We use it when entertaining.

Since I live in an early 1900s flat, there is a gorgeous formal dining room with wainscoting and dish molding on all the walls, and gorgeous built-in buffets with leaded glass doors. BUT since my mortgage is outrageous, we're using it as an extra bedroom (mine!), so that I can have another roommate. It makes a wonderful bedroom but I can't wait to use it for its actual purpose! Right now our 'dining area' is in the big bay window of our front room/living room. JEJJessica- Cost Plus World Market has some cute sets right now and they're having a 25% off sale on dining furniture AND free shipping! At the risk of sounding like an ad, I just picked up the 2 extra chairs I needed for my set, and I was so excited at how inexpensive they were!

well I will not call it a room, more like an area/space for dinning, because I have s good size lounge that allows me to demarcate the area. It's nice to have one, you can sit down and have romantic dinners :-)

We bought a super cool sturdy wooden table that folds up against the wall and looks like a desk during the day, but folds out into a full sized dining room table. The chairs are really cute, and fold, so we can store them in the closet when we don't have guests. I recommend it.

I supposed that technically we are using what's supposed to be our living room as our dining room, but our kitchen doesn't have room for a table, so it's not like we could eat there if we wanted to. We made our spare bedroom the living room.

I like spaces that you will live in and feel used/loved.

we have a dining areas, however, it's for everyday use. we do not have a separte area set up for a 'formal'dining room. I think formal spaces are spaces that are wasted and never get used.

I have a formal dining area in my house but I chose not to use that space for that reason since my family NEVER has formal dinners. We generally eat at the breakfast nook near the kitchen. The dining area has a pool table in it and is now the game room.

Dining rooms are hard to come back in Chicago, but our condo has one and it's huge! I love it.

I have one. I used to use the space like Nightwind does, but just two weeks ago, I actually switched it to a usable dining room. We had just outgrown the small table I have in the breakfast nook.

We use our diningroom for dinner every night. My kitchen has a breakfast bar and a table with chairs for other meals but I love the diningroom being the centre of the home.

I have one really long room that is supposed to be a dining room/living room. I have a dining table and chairs and a sideboard in one area, so I call it a dining room.

I have a tiny dining room, but barely ever use it.

we have a pretty formal one that doesn't get used much for dining, but the family like to pile things in there. the above pic is funny- the table is lovely- very ornate and formal, but what is up with those chairs? somewhat off for me-lol.

It's very tiny, but I do have one! My bookshelves have started creeping into it though.
