Do You Have a Kitchen Island?

Designer of House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Year Robert Stilin says, "I like an island you can work on but that can also be a gathering place for coffee or a casual dinner." I wholeheartedly agree! Growing up, I'd always do my homework at our kitchen island while my mom cooked dinner. It's also a great place to socialize. Do you have one?

we have one and I hate it. Our kitchen is entirely too small for an island, it seems to be a common trend here. Builders put them in to add more counter space but it does not enhance the room at all.

I do and its a pretty nice size but not a huge as that one in the picture. I wish! I have a nice amount of counter space but not enough for counter seating. I would love that. I would almost get rid of my dining table for it.

Where was the option for "Nope - But I wish I did!" Someday...sigh.

i was going to say it completely depends on the size of your kitchen. i do think a butchers block or an island look silly in a space that doesn't have room in it for one. it's all about making the most of your space. i hope i have a kitchen big enough for an island as i completely agree it's a good place for socialising- the kitchen really is the heart of most households.
