Do You Have a Sauna?

I grew up in a very cold, snowy climate, where Winter lasted an average of five-and-a-half months. One way we got through the Winter comfortably was by taking lots of long saunas. I delighted in sitting in the very hot sauna until I couldn't stand it any longer, and then jumping out the door to roll in the snow outside. When I visit my family every Winter, I always revive the tradition.

I don't really like saunas - the hot air suffocates me. It's wierd to me that a house would have a sauna in it; is that common? Also; is jumping out of the sauna into the snow really healthy? I'm always heard that it's bad to go from extreme heat to extreme cold...

We had one at my old house and NEVER used it. In the over ten years we lived there I can count the times we used it on one hand--so I never need another in my life!

I've never liked saunas. Blech. I'd rather take a hot bath.

I've often been tempted to jump the fence to the complex behind mine because they have a sauna, but haven't actually had the balls to do it yet... Also, I love how Finnish people say "Sowna" :)
