Do You Hire a Snow Plow Service?

I lived on a private road growing up, so we had to chip in with our neighbors to hire a snow plow service in the Winter. In general, snow removal is provided for public roads by the public works department, though. But some of us with long driveways may still have to hire snow plowers depending on your location. How about you?

Where is the "Public Works SHOULD have me covered but never got around to plowing our street despite the highest property taxes in the state" option ? :P

A local farmer plows our driveway with his tractor. There's no way we could shovel it ourselves. It's long and it snows way too much here.

Too bad other was not a choice. Growing up we shoveled the driveway and my parents have a really long drive way. Of course now the neighbor does it for me mom with his lawn mower with a plow attached. Where was he growing up?

I don't need to here in Atlanta but my parents hire someone in NY. They always swore they didn't need to, but after one wonderful winter where the plow guys accidentally plowed our driveway instead of the neighbor's who had hired them, they conceded that hiring someone was the way to go.

We pay condo fees and the mgmt company pays the worst landscaping service ever to plow our parking lot and shovel our entryways. We had a big storm a couple of weeks ago and they came to plow at 3pm, when everyone had already tried unsuccessfully to move their cars and gotten stuck in awkward places. The sidewalks get shoveled consistently 4-6 hours AFTER the bylaw says they have to be cleared. Plus, they mowed our back yard a total of once this summer... in October.

I wish you had "other." My current apartment has a long driveway behind the building where we all park. Just about two weeks ago we had a large storm here in Boston and my landlord's snow blower died so I got stuck shoveling it by hand for over 4 hours. My landlord did some of it and told me to "drive over" the rest, mind you we had over a foot. Of course the other tenants were too lazy to come out and help me so I called my bf for assistance. Last thing I wanted was to get stuck in my own driveway.
